All arts are one art. all ways are Oneway.

Uniting the Martial Arts Under a single Banner

There is a growing divide between progressive and traditional martial artists, yet these two halves really need each other.... They are dislocated parts of a whole. Oneway brings them together in a program that has the technical superiority of a mixed martial arts program with the heart of a traditional martial arts discipline. It grounds itself in realistic application, starting out with a comprehensive striking and grappling curriculum, but students are also given the opportunity to explore other aspects of the martial arts, from demonstration to weapons, meditation to fitness. The list goes on!

Oneway is all about bringing cross-disciplinary respect to the martial arts. It establishes a metric by which progress can be measured universally. It reaches out a hand to the legends that made the martial arts what it is today, while keeping up with current developments in self-defense. It preserve the warrior traditions and eastern philosophies that made martial arts something more than just fighting while pushing students to look past their accolades and not become complacent or self-absorbed in titles or pageantry. It is the inevitable conclusion to the martial arts journey that we have all been on over the last century.

Our story

Oneway started out a martial arts fraternity, bringing together instructors from different disciplines. After years of workshopping ideas, Oneway immerged as a way to right the wrongs of the past and keep traditional respect and discipline alive in the modern fight culture. It provides a framework for the entire martial arts community to come together under one roof. It looks past subtle differences between styles to see all arts as parts of a contiguous whole and every practitioner as a brother in arms for the same noble cause. United, we aim to give guidance and mentorship to the next generation, so that they can continue the development we started decades ago.

Principles of development

Self-defense Focused

At the end of the day, we are a fighting art. The core of what we teach and study must center around self-defense. Only in this way will the martial arts community as a whole value our other interests, which are many.

Non-Dogmatic

Contrary to what many beginners erroneously believe, there are typically many viable ways to do something. We try to check our ego at the door and keep an open mind to new concepts and ideas.

Pursuit of Everything

We believe that every martial art has something important to teach us. Self-defense is critical, but it is not the only reason to study the martial arts. There are other fun and interesting avenues to explore.

Moral Endeavor

We believe the physical training is an important means to attaining deeper self-reflection and growth. Without constant moral endeavor, we risk becoming as caustic to society as those we seek to defend against.

Approachable

We believe introductory classes should be approachable. The aim to get as many people as far down the road as possible. To help people achieve the best versions of themselves.

Rewarding

Everyone benefits from a carrot--even the most hardcore out there. That said, we are careful to make these rewards limited and clearly defined, so as to give them weight and meaning.

Increasing Rigor

Every step along the path must get harder to tread, lest we fail to reach our true potential. Those that wish to rest at a plateau may do so, but they will not continue to rise in rank until they resume the struggle.

Belt Integrity

While the standards for the first few ranks are realistic for everyone to achieve, we believe in a pyramid of ability where the best students are at the top. Only in this way can the lower ranks be inspired to train harder.

Marketability

We are practitioners first, teachers second, businessman third, but for anything to become prolific, it must be marketable. We believe in making money, but without sacrificing the art or marketing the belt.
